Digital Literacy Initiative

CVFWI supports farmworker health by providing education and performing basic  preventative screenings. Our Health Checks focus on blood pressure and blood sugar measurements as well as informational sessions on  Lyme Disease and heat stroke/heat exhaustion. Workers requiring follow up care are assisted with making appointments with local providers.

CVFWI works closely with the farmworkers to develop our programming. In Spring of 2022, a group of men collaborated with us to help make sure that our Health Checks are meeting what they want and need with respect proactively addressing their concerns.

CVFWI team member Ryan Wender, RN was invited to join the men in an impromptu soccer game at the end of our third visit of our pilot Health Check!

CVFWI’s work with farmworkers is highly integrated. Our Digital Literacy  Initiative (DLI) will be woven into our regular programming.  Connectivity and digital literacy are critical components  to accessing and utilizing the digital healthcare and education  infrastructures.

CVFWI will equip  farmworkers with the necessary digital skills and  tools in order to expand their access to services. In 2022, we will achieve the following:

  • Internet connectivity assessment (current and future)
  • Needs assessment and learner profile
  • Develop (working version) digital literacy curriculum
  • Digital literacy course pilot
  • Evaluation based on learner feedback
